In February of 2005 in the Quechua village of Peguche, Imbabura, Ecuador, we documented the spring ritual celebration of El Tumarina. It is the cross-cultural celebration of the flowering of the fields. Early in the morning the Catholic priest blesses the flowers; afterwards the Quechua shaman blesses the water, and the mix of flowers and water becomes a personal blessing of well-being and prosperity.
